The Indian Air Force is celebrating its 86th Anniversary on 08 Oct 2018. Officially established on 08 Oct 1932 with a handful of Officers and Hawai Sepoys and an inventory of four Westland Wapiti aircraft, the IAF has grown from strength to strength and is now considered as the fourth largest Air Force in the World. Over the years, the IAF has proved its mettle in the face of the enemy to protect the sovereignty of the Nation and its people. The Men in Blue have also rendered yeoman service during various natural calamities and rescued multitudes out of distress. The Flag of the Indian Air Force flies high due to its brave Men and Women who always place ‘Service before Self’ and work with utmost professionalism and loyalty.
The city of Dehradun holds a special place in the History of the Armed forces in general and Air Force in particular. The Air Force Selection Board carefully handpicks candidates who possess the qualities of taking up the mantle to carry forward the legacy of the Armed Forces. The Selection Board is the first of its kind and was initially formed as an experimental Board prior to Independence at the Forest Research Institute-Dehradun. The Board moved to its present location at Clement Town in Oct 1948.
The Air Force Day is a momentous occasion for all Air Warriors and veterans in and around Dehradun to get together and walk down the memory lane with pride and honour. A number of events are being carried out to commemorate the Air Force Day so as to pay a befitting tribute to the men who have given their precious lives to transform the great organisation to its present stature.
With a view to create awareness and interest among the youth of Uttarakhand, The Induction Publicity Exhibition Vehicle (IPEV) of the IAF is visiting various schools and colleges in Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Srinagar and other parts of Uttarakhand this month. This unique mobile platform helps the tech savvy and button friendly generation to acquaint themselves with the various opportunities in the IAF and get a feel of flying made possible through the simulators on board the vehicle.
