Dehradun 07 September, 2018(DIPR)-Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat formally inaugurated the state level workshop and nutrition campaign under the National Nutrition campaign organized by ICDS department at IRDT auditorium at Survey Chowk at Friday. On this occasion, Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat also released the calendar and nutrition song prepared by Women Empowerment and Child Development department.
It has to mentioned that the objective of the National Nutrition Mission is to eradicate malnutrition and anemia amongst infants and women and check patchiness in children. In this project, pregnant women, lactating mother and children below three years old have been included. There have been investments in enhancing the skills of the ICDS employees and Community Nutrition workers in the project.
Addressing the programme, Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that effective steps being taken under the “Prime Ministers’ Matra Vandana Yojna” and National Nutrition Mission to eradicate malnutrition amongst women and children. He said that the traditional foods of Uttarakhand hills are full of nutrition. He further said that local grains, vegetables, fruits found in the forests and vegetation are nutritious and our elders have adopted healthy eating traditions. He said that the state has very rich traditions regarding eating habits. The Chief Minister said that ‘Mandua’ is being considered one of the best nutritious food for mother and child.
He said that we have to get connected with our rich traditions to get rid of malnutrition and the new generation has to be made aware of the traditional local foods.
He further said that all the departments have to work in coordination to eradicate malnutrition. The Aanganbari centres have to play their important role in ending malnutrition. He said that cleanliness has to play an important role in checking diseases and malnutrition. There is need to make common people aware about cleanliness and vaccination. Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that women needed to be made aware about nutrition campaign.” We need to start a public campaign on malnutrition so that we can have a healthy state and healthy nation,” he said.
Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that a complete society could only be ensured by making women healthy, educated and aware. “ Only a healthy mother could rear children in a better was and make a strong young generation,” he added.
Chief Minister said that state government has decided to develop 670 Nyaya panchayats as growth centres. Out of these, 107 panchayats have been selected. The main objective of growth centres is to get local products produced, processed, graded, packaged, branded with value addition by local people. The women will be given priority in the growth centres so that the problem of women empowerment and malnutrition could also be taken care off. Her said that 50 per cent of the local produce are organic and by promoting, processing and value addition, the national and international demand of such products could be increased. The state has implemented “Pirul” policy in the state.
Rekha Arya, Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Development said that Chief Minister Child Nutrition Campaign has been launched in the state to eradicate malnutrition. Under Integrated Child development scheme, take home rations are being distributed as supplementary nutrition. Every fifth of each month is observed as weight and nutrition day and beneficiaries are given meals through Aanganbari centres. Under the “Khilti Kaliyan”programme, an innovative experiment has been launched to provide nutritional food prepared from local products.
Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi said that nutritional food prepared from local products for malnourished children was started from Dehradun which had encouraging results. After the success, the same is being replicated in all the districts of the state so that children could get nutritious food to check mal nutrition. She also gave details about the “Prime Minister Matra Vandana Yojna” being implemented in the state.
Dr.V.K. Pal,member,Niti Ayog and Rajesh Kumar, Joint Secretary, Government of India were also present on the occasion .
